• Session 1: Photography: Drawing with Light, June 25.
This first session of Photo Explorers puts the photo in photography. Discover how to harness and shape light to create photographs. We’ll also investigate how early scientists used the photographic process of cyanotypes to study the natural world, and then we’ll try our hand at making photosensitive sun prints.
• Session 2: Face Value: Portraits, Headshots & Selfies, July 2.
Say cheese! This session investigates one of the most popular types of photography since the invention of the camera… portraiture! From old-timey carte de visites to modern-day selfies, explorers will learn how people and communities connect with each other through portrait photography. Participants will then have the opportunity to participate in a photo shoot to hone in-studio skills by creating personalized portraits.
• Session 3: Capturing the Wild Side: Outdoor Photo Explore, July 16.
Slow down, observe, and connect with the environment through photography. In this session, we’ll step outside, use our lenses to explore the world around us, and discover how a sense of curiosity can turn into compelling images.
• Session 4: Hidden Gems: Mighty Macros, July 23.
This hands-on workshop invites explorers to look closer and unlock a whole new world of patterns, textures, and abstracts with macrophotography. Everyday household items, natural treasures, Lego-scapes, and more set the scene for amazing close-up shots.
• Session 5: Get It In Print: Printing Workshop, July 30.
The print lab is open! From tintypes to contemporary prints, see how photo printing has evolved throughout the years from rare relics to everyday keepsakes. Explorers will take a look at how photo editing software is used to optimize images, and then create a print to take home.
• Session 6: Oh Snap!: The Anything Lab, Aug. 6.
Instant photography, light painting, a photo scavenger hunt, more of what you love… it’s all on the table. Follow your imagination and see what develops in this final session of Photo Explorers.
