The level of political hate has reached a crisis level in Minocqua, a level we have not witnessed in more than a score of years writing these opinions, and a level that now demands that the citizens of Minocqua take action.
Bangstad asks county to waive parking requirements
A day after agreeing to meet the conditions of his administrative review permit if the town of Minocqua would give him more time on two issues related to parking and access, Minocqua Brewing Company owner Kirk Bangstad went to the county asking for the permit conditions to be amended so that the parking requirement could be waived altogether.
Bangstad call to action prompted barrage of emails to Hartzheim
A call to action last December from the Minocqua Brewing Company (MBC), which is owned by Kirk Bangstad, stoked supporters to write hundreds of emails to Minocqua town chairman Mark Hartzheim, among other things calling him a bully and the king of an “old-boys-network” who was engaging in a political vendetta that amounted to obstruction and harassment.

On a 3-1 vote Tuesday, the Minocqua town board — with John Thompson recusing himself and Minocqua town chairman Mark Hartzheim voting no — agreed to give the Minocqua Brewing Company (MBC) and owner Kirk Bangstad more time to meet parking requirements at his Front Street retail location, meaning he can open provided he meets other permit conditions.
