Home-opening sweep
At long last, the Lakeland volleyball team played their home opener on Tuesday. It didn’t come easy, but the Thunderbirds outlasted Rhinelander for a 3-0 sweep. The Thunderbirds beat Rhinelander 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) for their second Great Northern Conference (GNC) win.
Looking to get back on track
The Lakeland football team had a tough test last week in Mosinee. It doesn’t get much easier with a home game vs. Medford tonight. The Thunderbirds take on the Raiders at IncredibleBank Field in Minocqua.
Fourth straight shutout win
Offense and defense came together for three shutout wins for the Lakeland boys’ soccer team. The Thunderbirds remained unbeaten with a 2-0 win over Medford on the road on Tuesday. Lakeland also won two non-conference games in Rhinelander on Saturday. The Thunderbirds beat Shawano 2-0 and Black River Falls 7-0.
Lady Thunderbirds sweep Phillips
The Lakeland girls’ tennis team remained undefeated in Great Northern Conference (GNC) play with another sweep on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds defeated Phillips 7-0 on the road. Last weekend, Lakeland went 3-1 at the Wausau West Invite Friday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, Sept. 14.
Mercer’s Eiley Schoeneman records 1,000th career kill
After playing a tournament in Wisconsin Dells last weekend, the Mercer volleyball team played their first home match with one Tiger reaching a milestone.

Too many mistakes
The Thunderbirds sought out their first 4-0 start in a long time. Mistakes cost the Lakeland football team in their first loss of the season on Friday night. Mosinee beat the Thunderbirds 26-7 at Veterans Park in Mosinee.
Senior Night celebration
On a day where the Lakeland girls’ tennis team honored 13 seniors, the Thunderbirds swept another conference opponent on Thursday. Lakeland beat Antigo 7-0 in Minocqua.
T-Birds bring the heat
Warm temperatures didn’t stop the Lakeland cross country teams from winning the Ted Voigt Invite yet again on Thursday. “I think overall went well,” coach Gordy Hartzheim said. “The higher temperature made it a little more difficult for some kids.”

Lakeland girls’ swim comes up short to Colby/Abbotsford
A road Great Northern Conference (GNC) dual challenged the Lakeland girls’ swim team. They had some top swims, but ultimately fell short in team points. Colby/Abbotsford beat Lakeland 90-77 on Thursday in Colby.
Raiders snap Lady Thunderbirds’ seven-match win streak
A first-place tournament victory gave the Thunderbirds plenty of confidence last Saturday in Ashland. The Lakeland volleyball team then saw their winning streak come to an end on Tuesday.

A couple years ago, the Lakeland girls’ tennis team had a historic team win over Rhinelander. On Tuesday, the Thunderbirds won every single match.
Road test
Lakeland football is off to a 3-0 start. They’re looking to make a little bit of history with a road game at Mosinee tonight. The Thunderbirds take on Mosinee tonight in Mosinee. It’ll be Lakeland’s second road and Great Northern Conference (GNC) game of the season.

The Lakeland girls’ swim team used their depth to their advantage and finished third at an invite last week.
