Lakeland boys’ youth basketball fall intramurals
Lakeland Thunderbirds basketball is offering a fall intramural youth boys basketball league for grades three-six.
Buck Rut Run on Nov. 2
The Buck Rut Run returns on Sunday, Nov. 2. This 5K trail run, in its 30th edition, utilizes the trail system at Minocqua Winter Park. Online registration ($30 adult/$25 ages 1-18) is open at https://runsignup.com/Race/WI/Minocqua/BuckRutRun until midnight on Nov. 1.
Turnovers tank Thunderbirds
Turnovers and missed chances led to a Lakeland football loss in a Saturday afternoon contest. Wausau East (3-5, 2-4 GNC) defeated the Thunderbirds (5-3, 3-3 GNC) 24-10 in a Great Northern Conference game at Thom Field in Wausau. The loss ended any hopes Lakeland had at sharing the GNC title.
T-Bird boys’ soccer clinches share of conference title
One of the goals for the Lakeland boys’ soccer team is a conference championship. They earned at least a share of it following their latest win. The Thunderbirds beat Medford 8-0 in 79 minutes on the road on Thursday.

All three phases came together to help the Thunderbird football team snap its brief two-game losing streak last week. Lakeland beat Antigo 21-7 in a Great Northern Conference game on Friday, Oct. 3 in Antigo.

The Lakeland boys’ soccer team got back to full strength and inched closer to a conference title on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds beat Mosinee 6-0 at IncredibleBank Field in Minocqua. Lakeland scored twice in the first half and four times in the second half.

The Lakeland volleyball team couldn’t find any momentum against the top-ranked team in Division 2. Mosinee (7-0 GNC) beat the Thunderbirds (5-2 GNC) 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-19) on Tuesday in Minocqua.
