Voter turnout low to fair in Tuesday’s uncontested primaries
In Oneida County, 7,693 people cast ballots. That compared to 8,518 who voted in the August 2018 primary but was still far above the August 2016 primary, when only 5,074 people voted.
All the candidates were running unopposed in their respective party primaries.
For Congress, in Oneida County, Democratic nominee Tricia Zunker reeled in 3,442 votes, while on the GOP side U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, the Republican nominee, picked up 3,439. For state Senate district 12, Democratic nominee Ed Vocke received 3,354 in his primary to state Rep. Mary Felzkowski’s 3,297 in the GOP primary.
For state Assembly in the 34th district, Democratic nominee Kirk Bangstad garnered 3,020 in the Democratic primary to state Rep. Rob Swearingen’s 2,903 on the GOP side.
In Vilas County, only 31% of eligible voters cast ballots, but the Republican presence was stronger. Again all the candidates were running unopposed in their respective primaries.
In the Democratic primary, Zunker received 1,752 votes, while Tiffany netted 2,609 in his primary.
For state Senate district 12, Democratic nominee Ed Vocke received 1,443, while, on the GOP side, state Rep. Mary Felzkowski received 2,280.
For state Assembly in the 34th district, Democratic nominee Kirk Bangstad garnered 1,437 in the Democratic primary to state Rep. Rob Swearingen’s 2,555 on the GOP side.
In Minocqua, only 1,029 votes were cast, of which 741 were absentee ballots and 288 walk-ins. In Woodruff there were 415 votes with 292 absentee ballots, and 123 walk-ins.
In Arbor Vitae, there were 818 total votes, 624 absentees and 194 walk-ins.
