William H. (Bill) Thompson
Bill was born in Evanston, Ill., to John and Ruth (Williams) Thompson. He grew up in Park Ridge, was an Eagle Scout and led summer canoe trips for the Boy Scouts in northern Wisconsin. He was an Army veteran, graduated from the University of Illinois in mechanical engineering and was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity. Bill and Mary Ann lived in several states throughout Bill’s career and his favorite place on earth was the Northwoods of Wisconsin. They had a summer cabin in Minocqua for several years and eventually retired there. His most favorite memories were shared on the lake with family and friends. After Mary Ann’s passing, Bill relocated to Schaumburg, Ill., to be close to family. The highlight of his week was Friday night dinner with his son Mark and Betty.
Bill was known for his signature mustache and was a loyal Bears fan who learned to love the Packers during his time in Wisconsin. Bill always had a project going on at home. He loved to build things like custom barbeque grills, piers and bird feeders that kept the squirrels out; remodel rooms in the house; and refurbish his boats and car engines. He always enjoyed helping out neighbors and family too.
Bill was self-reliant, strong-willed, a straight-shooter and would do anything for his family as family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his children Lorry (Rollie Carlson) of Austin, Texas; Mark (Betty Lamasse) of Hanover Park, Ill.; and Scott (Louise) of Streamwood, Ill. They join with his six grandchildren Mackenzie and Avery (Lorry), Samantha and Alexandra (Mark), and Alanah and Logan (Scott) and great-grandchild Natalie (Samantha) in celebrating his long life.
The immediate family will gather for a private service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
