Kathryn T. Farber

Kathryn “Kay” T. Farber, age 85 years, a resident of Eagle River, (formally of Niles, Ill., and St. Germain) passed away peacefully Saturday, April 25, 2020 at her home with her family at her side.
Kathryn was born June 2, 1934 in Chicago, to Arthur and Kathryn Stolle. At age 10, she met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Farber, while ice skating on Duck Pond. They married Oct. 2, 1954, in Sauganash, Ill., sharing the next 63 years together. Kay was previously self-employed, as owner of Little Dears Preschool and Day Care Center in St. Germain. She truly enjoyed her years with all the children. Kay and her husband were known as “Mrs. Kay & Papa Dick” to many. She loved to see her former students and how they have grown and succeeded in their lives.
Kay was well known for her loving heart, big hugs and warm smile. She was kind, funny, giving, and her love was genuine. She was beautiful in every way. When she laughed, you couldn’t help but laugh along with her.
She loved spending time with her husband and family, cherishing moments spent together. She was so proud of her five children, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. At Christmas, when all were gathered together, she would turn to her husband and say “Look what we started, this is all because of us.”
Kay loved living in the Northwoods, watching the wildlife, scenic drives, cooking, playing cards, the casino, fishing, boating, and camping.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her son, Rick; her parents, Arthur and Kathryn Stolle; her sister, Marirose Bartels; and sons-in-law, Jeff and K.C.
She is survived by her four daughters, Kathy Ashlevitz of Gurnee, Ill., Carol (Nick) Itzkowitz of Niles, Ill., Susie (Joe Baroska) Vavrik of Vernon Hills, Ill., and Lynda (Mike) Amber of Eagle River; daughter-in-law, Ellie (Kevin) Farber-Gall of Algonquin, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Pennie (Chris) Takala, Eric (Lisa) Farber, Jessie (Nate) Berndt, Michaela Gall, Nickie (Brian) Cecola, Natalie (Joe) Baysinger, Jeremy (Sevi) Vavrik, Cody Vavrik, Trevor Vavrik, Jason (Julie) Itzkowitz and Justin (Sofia) Itzkowitz; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Joseph Stolle of Marana, Ariz.; sister Dorothy Koelle of Skokie, Ill., and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She will forever be in our hearts.
A memorial service to be held at a later date in Vernon Hills, Ill.
Arrangements by Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, Eagle River.  Online condolences may be expressed at gaffney-busha.com.
