In December of 2023, the Minocqua Hazelhurst Lake Tomahawk (MHLT) school district sent a drinking water advisory to parents of MHLT students in early December regarding perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) substances. District superintendent Dr. Jim Ellis told The Lakeland Times then that starting in the summer of 2023 public entities like MHLT not on a public water system are required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to test their wells for PFAS.

Eagle River woman dies after Hwy. 17 crash

A 70 year-old Eagle River woman died late Friday morning as the result of a one vehicle crash on State Highway 17 in Sugar Camp. According to a press release from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the report of the crash near the intersection of Hwy. 17 and Sunset Road.
