Lakeland softball punches ticket to the state tournament
A season for the ages marched on when the Lakeland Union High School softball team made history and advanced to the state tournament. The Thunderbirds needed two road wins to move on to the WIAA Division 2 state tournament. First, they beat second-seeded Medford 2-1 in a sectional semifinal on Wednesday. Lakeland then beat Rice Lake, also a No. 2 seed, 1-0 in a sectional final on Thursday.
