Northwoods United Soccer Club registration open
A new youth soccer league called the Northwoods United Soccer Club (NUSC) is here. NUSC is a non-profit 501c3 youth soccer club in northern Wisconsin. They are a proud member of Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association (WYSA), which is a partner of U.S. Youth Soccer.
Muk Up ski race on Saturday
The fifth-ever Muk Up ski race takes place Saturday in memory of Tony Mukavitz. The event takes place at Black River Basin at Snowriver Mountain Resort in Bessemer, Mich. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. in the main lodge. Bib pickup and check-in will take place.
Lakeland softball Culver’s Night tonight
Come to Culver’s in Woodruff tonight from 4 to 9 p.m. for 10 percent night. Culver’s will be donating 10 percent of sales from 4 to 9 p.m. to Lakeland softball.
Missed opportunities cost Thunderbirds
The Lakeland boys’ hockey team couldn’t recover after a slow start to a playoff game in Mosinee. Second-seeded Mosinee beat Lakeland, the No. 3 seed, 4-1 in a WIAA Division 2, Section 2 semifinal game on Tuesday night.
Winter ices Mercer girls’ basketball’s season
The Mercer girls’ basketball team scored points but couldn’t extend their season in a playoff game on Tuesday. The 14th-seeded Tigers fell 70-51 to third-seeded Winter High School in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal game.

Lakeland Nordic ski takes part in Kortelopet
The Lakeland Nordic ski team took part in the longest race of their season on Friday, Feb. 21. The Kortelopet is a 29k located in Hayward. With a choice of classic or skate technique, Lakeland did the skate race.

Thunderbirds rout Shawano/Bonduel to open playoffs
The Lakeland boys’ hockey team flexed their muscles in their highest-scoring game of the season on Thursday. The third-seeded Thunderbirds beat sixth-seeded Shawano/Bonduel 9-2 in a WIAA Division 2 regional final game in Minocqua.
One point short
A trip to state was decided by the smallest of margins as the Lakeland boys’ wrestling team competed in a sectional meet on Saturday. The Thunderbirds finished tied for 16th out of 23 teams with seven points at a WIAA Division 2 sectional meet in Amery.
