The Thunderbirds got by Three Lakes in their season opener. The Lakeland boys’ soccer team kept up non-conference play with two more wins Saturday. The Thunderbirds beat Hayward 4-0 and Waupaca 3-1 Saturday at Rhinelander High School.

Last Friday did not go as planned for the Lakeland football team. The Thunderbirds have a chance to rebound tonight with their home opener vs. Tomahawk. The Thunderbirds play the Hatchets tonight in Minocqua in a non-conference battle. Lakeland won last year’s matchup 21-6 in Tomahawk.
Lakeland girls’ swim focused on personal goals this year
It’s a new era for Lakeland girls’ swim. The Thunderbirds have a new coach and a small roster with limited swimmers returning from last year. Kristie Johns is set to begin her first year as coach of the Lakeland girls’ swim team.

Snowhawks route Pukall Lumber Studs
The Snowhawks put up 27 runs in their most recent game. It was much of the same in a blowout win over Pukall Lumber Studs. The Snowhawks beat Pukall 24-4 Monday night at Snowshoe Park in Lake Tomahawk. It was a make-up game from a July 18 rainout.
LUHS boys’ soccer gets by Three Lakes in season opener
Last year, the Lakeland boys’ soccer team had a hard time beating Three Lakes. Returning to Three Lakes on Tuesday, the Thunderbirds took care of business.

Lakeland volleyball hosts scrimmage, plays six teams
Their season less than a week old, the Lakeland volleyball team hosted a scrimmage right at the Lakeland Union High School fieldhouse Saturday morning. The Thunderbirds played Phillips, Chequamegon, Prentice, Northland Pines, Mercer and Three Lakes. Lakeland saw success as well as things to work on as the season begins.

Looking to build off last year, the Lakeland cross country teams return most of their top runners from a year ago as they look to win conference titles. Coach Gordy Drewsen enters her third year as head coach of the Lakeland cross country teams.
