One opportunity can be all that it takes to win. The Lakeland girls’ soccer team passed its first test of the season to give them a boost in the Great Northern Conference standings. The Thunderbirds beat Rhinelander 1-0 Thursday at Mike Webster Stadium in Rhinelander.

A walk-off hit by Antigo softball kept the Thunderbirds at the bottom of the Great Northern Conference standings. The Red Robins defeated Lakeland 5-4 in eight innings Thursday at Al Remington Ball Field in Antigo.

Lakeland golf takes fifth place to open season

The Lakeland golf team opened its season in Wisconsin Dells Thursday through Friday, finishing fifth out of 12 teams with a total score of 675. The T-Birds played two rounds of golf at Wild Rock Golf Club, a par 72.

Pride Football Camp starts on July 20

High school scheme install and skill contact days for incoming eighth- through 12th-graders is coming this summer. Incoming eighth-graders are welcomed and encouraged to participate with the high school players.

Fall flag football league begins in August

Practices and games will be held on the Lakeland High School game field and practice field. This league is focused on having fun, skill introduction and development and learning football strategy. Sportsmanship and teamwork will also be taught.

T-Birds of Tomorrow youth football camps this summer

Skill and fundamental camps for incoming second through seventh-graders will run June 22 through 23 and July 20 through 21.
