Never-ending game

The Minocqua Post 89 American Legion baseball team won its season opener in a game that featured 36 total runs and lasted approximately four hours Monday. The 89ers beat Tomahawk 19-17 at Tyler Kahle Memorial Field in Tomahawk.

Home tournament: Lakeland youth baseball teams experience highs and lows

Lakeland youth baseball hosted its second tournament of the summer with three Lakeland teams in action last weekend. The Lakeland 10U, 12U and 14U teams all played in a tournament Saturday, June 13 through Sunday, June 14 at the Minocqua Park Complex.

LUHS spring sports teams total 48 all-conference student-athletes

The Lakeland Union High School spring sports season concluded with two team Great Northern Conference championships and numerous postseason accolades. In total, 48 different LUHS student-athletes received all-conference recognition by the end of the season.

Taking the next step: Kade Meyer to play for Ontario Hockey League this fall

Minocqua native and former Lakeland Union High School hockey player Kade Meyer took the next step in his hockey journey when he signed with a Canadian-based hockey league last month. Meyer signed to play hockey for the Saginaw Spirit, an Ontario Hockey League (OHL) team, on May 16.

Fall flag football league begins in August

Practices and games will be held on the Lakeland High School game field and practice field. This league is focused on having fun, skill introduction and development and learning football strategy. Sportsmanship and teamwork will also be taught.

Lakeland youth football registration open

Registration is open for youth sixth-, fifth- and fourth-grade players in the Lakeland district wishing to play tackle football. They compete with other area teams in the Northwoods League. Practice for the upcoming season will begin in early August. The season typically ends by mid-October.

T-Birds of Tomorrow youth football camps this summer

Skill and fundamental camps for incoming second- through seventh-graders will run June 22 through 23 and July 20 through 21.
