Lauer’s response to Rulseh: Acknowledge hate within the Democratic Party

To the Editor: Response to Ted Rulseh’s letter to the editor “Rulseh rejects Lauer’s remarks as despicable, slanderous and ironic” published in the Oct. 8 edition of The Lakeland Times.

Mystic taunts competition

To the Editor: I would like to encourage my fellow Lakeland Times Football Prediction Board members to do better. It’s inconceivable that the mystic (aka Dread Pirate Roberts), with no sports education is beating a sports writer and an athletic director.

Contempt for democracy

The latest filing by Special Counsel Jack Smith makes clear that Donald Trump and his aides had nothing but contempt for democracy in his efforts in 2020 to subvert the results of a democratic election.

Politicians steal homes

Sometimes politicians steal people’s homes. Really. If homeowners miss property tax payments, even if they never received the bills, some towns grab the whole house and keep the proceeds. All the proceeds. Even if the total is much more than the property tax owed.

Rulseh rejects Lauer's remarks as despicable, slanderous and ironic

To the Editor: I take vigorous exception to Paul Lauer’s vicious slander against Democrats, alleging that they believe “the assassination of [former] president Trump was a good thing” (“Reader’s personal survey of why not to vote for Democrats,” Oct. 1).

Reader asserts Kamala Harris is the clear choice

To the Editor: It is late September and we are now just a bit over a month away from the 2024 election. So it seems like a good time to take a look at our choices — our realistic choices, not Jill Stein or Cornell West or any other write-in …

Five Years of Healing at The Tick Center

To the Editor: As the Aspirus Tick-Borne Illness Center at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff celebrates five years of health care related to tick bites we applaud the Howard Young Foundation and the many who have helped to make the center a success.

Reader applauds ‘threats to democracy’ as defense of the republic

To the Editor: “Donald Trump is an existential threat to democracy.” This is a sentence, a chant, a liturgy repeated countless times each day by the organs of the left, the legacy media, and those unwashed by historical understandings.

Baffled over bagged parking signs

To the Editor: In what may have been June of this year, the town of Minocqua installed ‘No Parking’ signs on both the north and south sides of Country Club Road near US 51.

Reader asserts Harris-Walz ticket threatens tribal sovereignty with alleged marxist ties

To the Editor: Tribal Members everywhere, here’s something to consider before you vote in November. If Kamala Harris wins in November, your reservations (historic tribal lands) and your sovereignty will be at risk and most likely would disappear.

Reader asserts ‘House of Republicans’ a governance farce

To the Editor: Have you been watching the latest episode of “House of Republicans?” For slapstick comedy it’s pure gold, but as an example of American self governance it’s a real stinker. Unable to perform their part convincingly, this party of misfits try to hide their lack of talent behind …

Trump’s antisemitism

At a donor event last week with Miriam Adelson, the widow of Las Vegas casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson, Donald Trump promised to be the best friend Jews have ever had in the White House. The event was entitled “Fighting Antisemitism in America.” This is what Trump said:

Bunk from a cabinet secretary

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich now makes videos, like I do. In fact, his channel, Inequality Media, is very much like Stossel TV. He also reaches people via social media platforms, gets millions of views and covers economic topics.

Bile and vile: In a word, Trump’s campaign is about hate

On Jan. 19, 1989, Ronald Reagan devoted his last speech as president of the United States to reminding Americans that our country owes its success to immigrants. “It’s the great life force of each generation of new Americans that guarantees that America’s triumph shall continue unsurpassed into the next century …

Lakeland Times: Our View

There are many ways to tell when a community is thriving. One is by its economic fortunes. There are prosperous middle-and working-class residential neighborhoods, and there is a strong and prosperous small business sector. The downtowns of these communities stand strong and proud.
