Gutter politics in Wisconsin Supreme Court race
To the Editor: The Wisconsin Supreme Court race has just begun, and already Democrat Susan Crawford (it is laughable to call these races nonpartisan) is diving straight into the gutter.
Mean boys: The bullies and the bros take over
It’s an excellent time for bullies and bros in Donald Trump’s Washington, where the president wasted no time confirming that if he has his way — namely, whatever he wants — it’s going to be all thuggery all the time.
The chainsaw president!
Finally, a real libertarian is president. That’s in Argentina, where last year, Javier Milei surprised pundits by winning the election by a landslide. Now that he’s had a chance to govern, my new video covers the results and explains why Milei is now even more popular.
Lakeland Times: Our View
President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship almost assuredly is going to be struck down in the courts, and, quite frankly, it should be.
A new age begins
President Donald Trump is now officially the 47th president of the United States. Trump’s first inauguration in 2017 was marred by violence from the left; it was also surreal. The media were utterly shocked by Trump’s victory — Trump himself seemed shocked, too — and that disbelief translated into four …

ATV Club seeks common ground amidst ongoing debate
To the Editor: Regarding Steve Halverson’s letter to the editor in the Jan. 17 edition of The Lakeland Times; I managed to get through all of the confusion and rhetoric, and I’d like to say that he makes two very important points. These should be the focus, not what car …

Minors and porn
Of course the state has a legitimate interest in preventing minors from accessing porn online that is intended for adults. Who could be against that? Certainly not the state of Texas, which overwhelmingly passed a law requiring porn sites to verify the age of users seeking access to their sites. …
Reader asserts Tiffany's bill endangers affordable medication
To the Editor: Are you a senior citizen on Medicare? Will you be? Did you know Representative Tom Tiffany is working to make it harder for you to afford medicine?
A breath of fresh air
This week, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees began their Senate confirmation hearings. After four years of the administrative malaise of the Biden administration, the nominees proved to be a breath of fresh air. They completely reject the failed philosophies of the Biden years — and the contrast is absolutely stunning.
Is Los Angeles toxic?
While I’ve been mainlining local news to see if my house, on the edge of an evacuation zone, was going to survive, my daughter (who I’ve been staying with) has been doing research on the air. As depressing as it has been to see these fires destroying my adopted hometown, …
