Glyn Alyn Roberts was born in Kenosha, to Glyn and Marie (Cramer) Roberts. He had no siblings.
Upon high school graduation in 1947, Bud moved permanently to Arbor Vitae where his parents had purchased Blue Island Resort in 1944. Soon after, Art Oehmcke of the Wisconsin conservation department in Woodruff hired him to work at the Woodruff fish hatchery.
With the help of his wife, Cleo, and his mentor, Arbor Vitae-Woodruff Grade School principal Wilbur “Webb” Hagen, he entered school at the University of Wisconsin-Stout where he majored in industrial arts and finished his bachelors degree in three-and-one-half years, returning to the Arbor Vitae in 1965.
He taught for a year at Three Lakes High School, and then at Lakeland Union High School until his retirement in 1988. In 1970, he earned his masters degree from Stout.
Bud was an early member of Calvary Lutheran Church since about 1951, a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church in the late 70s and early 80s. He was central to the local Habitat for Humanity program, was a founding/charter member of the Arbor Vitae Fire Department in 1976, and he volunteered for many years at the Lakeland Pantry.
Glyn was preceded in death by his wife of more than 65 years, Cleo Ann Gilbert Roberts (1934-2021).
He is survived by his sons; Garyn (and wife Virginia, and their three children David (and wife Amanda, and their daughter, Holly Jean) Lauryn, Karyn “Morgan” Roberts); and Thomas of Weston.
A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Minocqua. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, Calvary Lutheran Church, the Arbor Vitae Fire Department, The Lakeland Pantry and/or Habitat for Humanity.
