Carol E. Zache passed away December 7, 2024, in Minocqua. She was a lifelong Minocqua resident. Born to Hamilton Chester Kline and Reine Elizabeth (DuBois) Kline, Carol was the youngest of four siblings. She was preceded in death by husband Douglas E. Zache and brothers, John Kline, Eugene Kline, and Robert Kline.
Survivors include, three daughters, Marcia R. Zache, Arbor Vitae, Diane C. Johnson, (Jan H. Johnson) Lake Tomahawk, Karen L. Millen, (Mark T. Millen) Minocqua; five grandchildren, Steven T. Waldburger, Kathryn R. Bieschke, Matthew C. Bieschke (Rachel M. Ave Lallemant), Kali E. Eddy, (Ross A. Eddy), Hannah E. Millen; and seven great-grandchildren, Taedon, Keaton, Clinton, Vaeda, Greame, Rory, and Collins.
Carol met her husband Doug Zache in Minocqua, they were married for 73 years. They loved all that the Northwoods had to offer, especially the water. Swimming, water skiing, and snorkeling along with some international scuba junkets were lifelong pastimes. Carol was the Torpy Park lifeguard at age 14.
They began their life adventure when Doug enlisted in the Korean War. They moved to Fort Bragg N.C. Military Installation before Doug’s deployment to Germany. After his discharge they moved to Milwaukee where they raised three daughters. Carol and the girls spent their summers in Minocqua. (Swimming lesson’s anyone?) The family moved back to Minocqua permanently in 1970.
In 1972 Carol and Doug began a new journey, in the antique business. Carol began with Native American jewelry/artifacts from across the Southern Mesas. As their business and interests grew, they added antique furniture, toys, gas lamps, canoes, and artwork to name just a few things. Working side-by-side they did their own wood refinishing up in their barn and worked many antique shows across the USA. Carol was a self-taught caning expert, and she also did appraisals.
Carol and her colleague, antique dealer Judy, partnered to open and operate C & J Promotions, an antique show venue they held here in the Northwoods offering a summer schedule until Carol retired.
Interment will be at the Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw.
