Land O’ Lakes Arts (LOLA), a nonprofit art center in the heart of Land O’ Lakes is excited to welcome back teaching artist Erik Vevang for a special winter series of woodcarving workshops. Vevang, an experienced artist with a passion for greenwood carving, will lead two two-day workshops and two half-day classes at LOLA, giving students a rare chance to explore this traditional craft with expert guidance.
Vevang’s journey into carving began in 2013, and since 2016, he has been sharing his craft with students across the Midwest. Inspired to begin carving by his wife, Michele, Vevang has immersed himself in a range of workshops and classes to refine his skills. With a background in Studio Art from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and a career as a carpenter and woodworker, Vevang brings a unique perspective that blends art and functional craftsmanship.
Currently teaching classes at the Audubon Park Community Center in Minneapolis, White Bear Center for the Arts, Duluth Folk School, and Marine Mills Folk School, Vevang brings years of experience to each of his workshops. His LOLA sessions are designed to engage both beginners and advanced students.
This winter and spring, LOLA will offer the following classes:
• Two-Day Green Wooden Bowls Carving Class – Jan. 30-31.
• Half-Day Butter Spreader Carving Class – Feb. 1.
• Two-Day Spoon Carving Class – April 3 - 4.
• Half-Day Butter Spreader Carving Class – April 5.
These classes will be held in the LOLA gallery room, with all tools and materials provided.
Each session is designed to introduce participants to greenwood carving techniques while fostering a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship.
