William “Bud” G. Putz Jr., 98, of the Town of Arbor Vitae passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022. Bud was born in the Town of Belmont, Portage County on July 28, 1924 to the late William and Clara (Zawacki) Putz. He married his first love, Beulah Callahan, in October of 1947. They raised two children together, Tom and Sara. From 1950-1972, Bud owned and operated a full-service fuel station in Wisconsin Rapids. In 1972, the family made the decision to head north to Lost Lake in St. Germain before settling on their forever home in Arbor Vitae, in 1976. During his time up north, he drove truck until his retirement in 1989. With his inability to sit still, he took to caretaking until the early 2000s. After the passing of his first wife in 1993, Bud reconnected with an old friend and married Beverly Drmolka of Wild Rose in November of 1996. They spent many years in Arbor Vitae before moving back to Portage County and into Whispering Pines in 2018.
Bud enjoyed watching the birds and the Brewers. Game day was sacred in his household. He loved to share his stories of the past with anyone that would listen. He gave directions in a way that were easy to follow and understand, such as “after the whirly whoos and the loopty loops take a left.” He had the patience of a saint and a heart made of gold. His go to saying in the heat of an argument was, “Go eat your popcorn!” That resulted in any disagreement ending on a laugh. He will be greatly missed by all that were blessed to know him.
Bud is survived by his son, Tom of Eagle River; daughter, Sara (Barry) of Arbor Vitae; former son-in-law, John of Arbor Vitae; grandchildren, Brad of Biloxi, Miss. and Dana (Lawrence John) of Woodruff; great-grandchildren, Lawrence Allen and Rebekah of Woodruff; many nieces and nephews, and numerous bonus children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren from his second marriage.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Beulah; second wife, Beverly; father, William; Mother, Clara; and sisters, Margret, Bernice, and Evelyn.
Burial arrangements will be determined at a later date.
Bolger Funeral Home is assisting the family, www.bolgerfuneral.com for online condolences.
