He was born April 12, 1959, in Finely Hospital, Dubuque, Iowa, a son of the late Robert Emory Wheeler and late Joyce Ann (Vaughn) Wilson.
John leaves behind a son, Jake Richard Wheeler (Andrea) of Arbor Vitae; daughter, Kali Anne Tornow (Luke); a grandson, Gavin Lewis Pockat; and a granddaughter, Bridget Evelyn Pockat, all of Minocqua.
John also is survived by brothers, Michael R. Wheeler (Jeanine) of Cape Coral, Fla., Daniel L. Wheeler of Sugar Grove, W.Va., Joel P. Wheeler (Kelly) of Arbor Vitae, and Eric D. Wheeler of Milwaukee, and sisters, Lisa K. Robb (Randy) of Jackson, Mo., Renee L. Wheeler of Jacksonville, Fla., and Amy E. Harty (Mike) of Arbor Vitae.
John is further survived by seven uncle/aunts, nine cousins and six nephews and one niece.
The family will hold a small private memorial at home. John, as per his wishes, will be cremated, and his ashes will be taken to the warmer climate of Florida.
