Gary married Renee Rochon in Wausau, and had two children: Ryan and Kelli. Gary and Renee moved to Minocqua in 1981. Gary worked for Ross Construction and Heesakker Builders. In 1998, Gary started his own business, and in 2001, was joined by his son, who could do his Dad’s heavy lifting. Building and climbing took its toll on Gary, and he retired his hands in 2007. His work was flawless. Gary had impeccable standards and settled for nothing less than perfection.
Ryan and Kelli both have the greatest memories of growing up with their dad. Gary was truly a kind, humble man who worked extremely hard for his family.
Gary got remarried to Tammy Champaux and traveled the country looking for warm adventures outside of Wisconsin. Gary will forever be missed by his children. The world is certainly short for carpenters in 2023 and one of the greatest God had ever made is now resting with his savior Jesus.
Gary is preceded in death by his wife, Renee (d. 2003); parents, Robert & Beverly; and his sister, Carol Scheffler (d. 2022). He is survived by his children Ryan (Norma) Johnson, Kelli (Dave) Larson and seven beautiful grandchildren.
No service will be held in Gary’s memory. Gary will be cremated and ashes spread in Lake Katherine once the ice opens in spring.
