A celebration of life will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 26, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids.
Betty was born on August 9, 1930, in Nekoosa, to August and Hilda (Kraft) Braun. She was part of the 1948 graduating class from Alexander High School. Betty met the love of her life, Earl Urban, and they were married on August 26, 1950, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa. Betty worked as a secretary in the Wisconsin Rapids school system.
In her free time, Betty could be found crocheting, gardening or making rock banks. She enjoyed being in the outdoors, canoeing, picking blueberries or sunbathing. Betty’s family will miss her cooking, especially her large platters of fried fish and blueberry pies. She was a woman of faith and loved to read her Bible and was known to many as a prayer warrior. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
Betty is survived by her children, Dan (Cheryl) Urban, Jane (William) Kuckkahn, Linda (Kenneth) Hamm; grandchildren, Shondi Christensen, Amanda (Joshua) Calhoun, William (Cindi) Kuckkahn Jr., Bethany Sparks, Luke (Jessica) Kuckkahn, Jesse (Lindsay) Urban, Trisha (Brett) Anderson, Benjamin (Angie) Hamm; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Tracy; sister-in-law, Judith Urban and many extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Urban; parents, August and Hilda Braun; stepmother, Ruth Braun; sisters, Ruth (Lyle) Rockwood, Doris (Bob) Havlik; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick Tracy, Bertrum (Marge) Urban, Eldon Urban, Jean (Norman) Goodness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty’s name to Be Still Retreat Ministries, 6789 3rd Ave. N. Plainfield, WI 54966.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Edgewater Nursing Home for the loving and attentive care given to Betty.
