Glenn’s professional years included many travels as he worked in the field of flexible packaging, specializing in the confectionary world of candy and sweets. He was instrumental in many of the candy designs and developments we all see around us — including the creation of the UPC symbols that are on all packaging today. Glenn and Betty retired to Harshaw in 1994 and built their dream home on Little Bearskin Lake, where he spent his time learning about the history of the area and educating many on the natural beauty of the Great North of Wisconsin.
Glenn’s love of the outdoors and nature, as well as his humor and outgoing personality, made him a well-known character in the area. He was a regular at his favorite hangouts including Norwood Pines and the Fireside. Glenn was very active in his church, Faith Lutheran in Harshaw, including being treasurer and elder. He was also the treasurer of The Little Bearskin Lake Association until as recently as fall of 2022.
Glenn is survived by his daughter, Tami Lee Sontag, husband David Popp; grandchildren, Toby Sontag – Teresa Brown, Kari Sontag and Jessica Dahl, husband Nathan Dahl; and great- grandchildren, Magi, Juel, Lysa, Logan, Royce and Lincoln. Glenn was preceded in death by his son, Greg Robert Sontag.
A memorial service for Glenn Sontag will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, at Faith Lutheran Church in Harshaw. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. Fellowship and a light luncheon will follow. The family respectfully asks in lieu of flowers any memorials be sent to Faith Lutheran Church, 9160 Church Road, Harshaw, WI 54529. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory of Tomahawk is assisting the family. You may view Glenn’s obituary and leave online condolences at generationsfuneral.com.
