Soon after, Mac rapidly became one of the premier commercial taxidermists in southern Wisconsin promoting his work at Safari club international- hunting clubs and other sporting venues mounting big game trophies for sportsmen from around the world. Mac was a visionary, he cofounded the Wisconsin Taxidermist Association which began in 1976. The Wisconsin Taxidermy Association (WTA) has become a family of artists, entrepreneurs and business owners and over the last several decades has grown to be one of the largest and most recognized state taxidermy associations. The WTA promotes the art of taxidermy and the education of it as well. Mac also pioneered the selling of tanned skins and capes to the taxidermy industry and Museums nationwide calling the Business Mac the Skin Man.
After selling that business, he ventured out selling finished mounted taxidermy to sporting goods stores, department stores, restaurants, lodges and private individuals calling this business “Macs Taxidermy.” He enjoyed the people and business of selling finished taxidermy and you would often hear him say “It ain’t easy selling dead animals.” He often would joke that people loved his voice as a sales man — that being true it was more his personality which was the main reason he was successful in sales, it didn’t take long into a conversation with him to become drawn to his charismatic nature and soon become a client and friend.
Mac also was an avid sportsman having hunted big game and fishing from Africa to Alaska and Wisconsin to Wyoming, collecting many trophies while on those excursions then preparing them with his giftedness as a taxidermist to display in his personal trophy room.
Mac is survived by his daughter: Laura (Jamie) Madl; granddaughters Kayla (Tony) Zelinski, Michelle Becker; four great-grandchildren, and dear friend: Ellen Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Christopher McNamara; granddaughter: Amber Shea; brother: Thomas McNamara.
Mac will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, the world will never be the same without him nor should it be. Thanks my friend.
A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 13 at Fibbers Restaurant and Bar in St Germain.
