Twins or step-twins

When we see whitetail fawn twins, we may periodically witness one fawn having a very dark, reddish tan color to their coat, versus the other twin being much lighter and possibly much smaller or larger. Now, it’s fair to say that genetics can pretty well sum everything up as the reason for the variance in the color of their coats, but unfortunately that is simply too easy of an answer.
