Velta (Muiznieks) Anast was born July 8, 1929 in Rugaji Latvia, one of five children, and the only daughter of Aleksandrs and Beatrise (Vanags) Muiznieks. She spent her early childhood on a large family farm and enjoyed visits to the capital city of Riga.
