Wisconsin’s Aquatic Invasive Species Monitoring Program utilizes volunteers, partners in fight against invasive species
Maureen Kalscheur, the aquatic invasive species monitoring lead with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) spoke about the state’s invasive species monitoring program at the 2023 Wetland Science Conference. Wisconsin has 11,190 square miles of water, she said. There are over 15,000 lakes and 43,000 miles of rivers and streams. Added to that are the state’s 5.3 million acres of wetlands, and the state is bordered by 6.4 million acres of the Great Lakes. This makes the fight against invasive species a big deal in Wisconsin.
