Late winter snowfall could affect deer herd numbers
The Winter Severity Index is one of the metrics used by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and County Deer Advisory Committees (CDACs) to help determine the likely health of the deer herd. This is one of the metrics and, in the northern parts of the state, one of the most important metrics, that help decision-makers understand whether deer population numbers are likely to trend up, down or stay the same from year to year.
