St Croix Oak Savanna Chapter, Wild Ones Native Landscaping hosted a recent webinar with Dave Crawford who, with his wife, built what is known as a Passive House in the Twin Cities. Crawford started out with what he termed his “Oak House” while still living here in Wisconsin. This house was what Crawford called a “hobby level” energy-efficient house. The first floor backed into a hill and the front had sported a wealth of windows. This allowed for easy heating and cooling. The wood of the home came from remnants and left-overs from sawmills and, as the name implied, was all oak. Crawford built this home in the 1980s, but soon got married.
