Lake Tomahawk topic of study to assess shoreland conditions and identify critical shoreland and aquatic habitat
At this year’s virtual Wisconsin Water Week, one of the sessions focused on Lake Tomahawk (called Tomahawk Lake by the researchers). Mike Meyer of Nova Ecological Services in Manitowish Waters worked in collaboration with the Lake Tomahawk Lake Association on a project funded with a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) lake planning grant to map critical habitat along the lakeshore and to determine what impacts high human use in some areas might have. The goal was to create education and outreach campaigns on a lake-wide scale and involve land owners in supporting ecological best management practices (BMPs) for the lake.
