The Lake Where You Live

Looking out my office window on a Monday around noon I see on the ground at least six of the “three to five” inches of snow predicted yesterday. And it’s still coming down.

The Lake Where You Live

We’ve had 18 inches of snow in the three weeks since I last shoveled the stairway to Birch Lake. I can see no sign of the 57 steps – just a smooth white slope. I venture down, grasping the two-by-four handrail, stumbling now and then as a boot heel catches …

Fish Like a GIRL

A couple of weeks ago, I began the Pollinator Steward Certification training. I was excited to see this opportunity come across my email from the Pollinator Partnership. I think it will help me in the way of outreach, when speaking to others about pollinators and their role in the environment.

The Lake Where You Live

Some of us lucky souls don’t have to wonder what it’s like to live on a small lake in Wisconsin. Those who do not enjoy such settings, and those of us who do, will likely enjoy a book released last fall by Wisconsin Historical Society Press.

Fish Like a GIRL

This week I had two different opportunities to talk with some home school kids groups about gardening. The first group was fairly small but totally engaged. I talked to them not only about planting food, but about the sensory garden project we wanted to undertake for them this spring.
