The North Lakeland school district’s board of education Monday heard results of the latest Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) report card for the district.
Hazelhurst will not create additional Bearskin Trail access
The town of Hazelhurst will not proceed with creating access to the Bearskin State Trail from the east side of U.S. Highway 51 near County Highway D and Mill Road.
Manitowish Waters to extend bike trail to Spider Lake Bridge
Manitowish Waters will work to extend its recreational bike trail an additional two miles south parallel to U.S. Highway 51 from Powell Road down to the Spider Lake Bridge.
Oneida forestry committee hears updates for ATV trail contact, parks, truck bid
The Oneida County forestry committee was approached by Musson Brothers for an extension to complete an ATV trail in Monico that is approximately five miles long. Eric Rady brought the request to the forestry committee at their meeting this month. The contract was set to expire on Dec. 9, 2022.

DPI releases biennial student survey data
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released data gathered from its Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Wisconsin’s YRBS is done in conjunction with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Its used to track trends in health-risk behaviors of high school students.
Northwoods Youth Deer Hunt Challenge Banquet set
The Northwoods Youth Deer Hunt Challenge is already well underway, and organizers just announced the date for this season’s banquet. The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua, Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023.
Oneida County set to get windfall from national opioid settlement
The state of Wisconsin and 71 of the state’s 72 counties are all set to get a big payout in the recently announced nationwide opioid settlement between large pharmaceutical companies and distributors and an array of state and local governments that filed lawsuits against the companies.
Crescent electors approve levy, board approves budget
Crescent electors, during a town meeting on Dec. 8, approved the town’s 2023 tax levy of $626,130. Following that approval, the Crescent town board adopted a 2023 town budget of $855,835.
Evers, PSC open next state broadband expansion grant round
Gov. Tony Evers and Rebecca Cameron Valcq, chairperson of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC), announced the next round of funding opportunities through the Broadband Expansion Grant Program. The application period runs from Dec. 7 and will end on Feb. 22, 2023.
