Dennis Steinberger

Dennis Steinberger of Phillips, and formerly Woodruff, passed away on Sunday, September 20, at the age of 81. Dennis was born in West Allis, the son of Ken and Nan (Schlecht) Steinberger. He attended and graduated from Lakeland Union High School.

Dennis made his life in Woodruff with his then wife Bonnie where they raised their two sons. It was there that he founded and built his business, Steinberger & Sons LTD in 1974. For the next 34 years he poured residential and commercial concrete foundations and flatwork throughout the Northwoods. 

While Dennis built his life and raised his family in Northern Wisconsin, much of who he was could be found in the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he could be found in every season enjoying, and sharing with others, all that the wilderness had to offer. Hunting and fishing, tapping maple trees, trapping and spending countless hours in the forests and waters of northern Wisconsin and far beyond.

For Dennis these were more than hobbies. They reflect the independence and self-reliance with which he approached life and he took pride in his ability to care for himself and the people he loved. He passed this appreciation for the outdoors on to his children and grandchildren, teaching them not only to enjoy the wilderness, but to find confidence and independence within it.

Dennis is survived by his longtime partner Jackie DeLuca; his son, Michael (Diana) Steinberger; his grandsons, Alec, Adam, and Zach Steinberger; and his sisters Joanne (Pete) Kumbier, Cheryl (Tom) Wesle, Nanette (Bernie) Grawey Knox, Sandy (Steve) Peck and Pauline Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his son Kenny Steinberger and his sister Katie Steinberger.

A memorial gathering for Dennis will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel with a Memorial Service at 4:30 p.m. followed by a reception.
