Mary Jane Cottrell passed away on September 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family she spent her life caring for so deeply.
Mary was born in Minneapolis to Douglas and Dorothy Heintz. She shared 58 years of marriage with her husband, Rick Cottrell, building a life centered on faith, family, love, and devotion.
Mary was a loving mother to Becky, Kim, Kristy, Michael, Amy, and Rene’. She is survived by her husband, Rick; her children Kim and her husband Chris, Michael and his wife Amy, Amy and her husband Russ, and Rene’ and his wife Beth; as well as Becky’s husband, Gustavo. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom held a very special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Becky and Kristy.
Mary was a kind, loving, and giving wife, mom, grandma, and friend. She loved the Lord deeply and faithfully studied His Word each day. To her family, she was both their prayer warrior and their worrier — always praying, checking in, fussing over those she loved, and making sure everyone else had eaten before she did.
Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Her favorite hymn, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” reflected the steadfast faith she carried throughout her life.
Mary loved her family well, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. Instead, her immediate family will gather for supper to share happy memories, stories, laughter, and love — honoring her together around the table. You may leave your private condolences for her family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Cottrell family.
