Born in Woodruff, Mark Lowell Coffen, 31, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026 surrounded by loved ones, at HIA Heather’s House in Fargo, North Dakota, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Mark spent his childhood growing up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and traveling and camping with his family across the state and to national parks beyond state lines. He played pop warner football, then went on to play varsity tennis in high school.
After graduating from Lakeland Union High School, Mark met his future wife and best friend, Colleen, while they both attended Nicolet College in Rhinelander. Eventually, they would wed on a snowy evening in December 2022 in Fargo. They spend over 11 years together, growing up side-by-side from young adults into the thrilling adventures of adulthood.
Mark decided college wasn’t the right route for him, but supported Colleen’s higher education career which eventually brought them all the way out to the Fargo-Moorhead area. Mark spent the majority of his decade out in Fargo-Moorhead pursuing flooring sales at Carpet Garage where he was honored with top salesman numerous years in a row. In his spare time, Mark was an avid bicyclist, following the many bike paths winding around the Red River, playing disc golf, and a committed cat dad to his furry companions at home. Mark was known to be introverted at first, but would eventually reveal his goofy, fun-loving self in time.
Mark is preceded in death by grandparents Edmund and Betty Coffen; Everette and Dora Crass, one uncle Paul Crass, one aunt, DeLynn Engelhardt, and Figgus, one of his and Colleen’s beloved cats. He is survived by Colleen Egan, his wife, and Mabel and Indigo, their two remaining cats; Robin and Carrel Coffen, his parents; Ross and Kristen Coffen, his brother and sister-in-law; and Ellie Jo and Waylenn Coffen, his niece and nephew.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mark’s honor to your local hospice care facility and/or animal humane society.
Friends, family, and loved ones are invited to the Woodruff Town Hall on Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 3 p.m. to a celebration of life for Mark.
