In Loving Memory of Janet R. Kazda.
Janet R. Kazda, 82, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026. Born December 12, 1943, in Minocqua, Janet lived a life overflowing with warmth, laughter, and devotion to family and friends. She was married to the love of her life-high school sweetheart, Bernie Kazda, on June 22, 1963, and together they would have celebrated 63 years of marriage this summer — a testament to their enduring bond.
Janet graduated from Eagle River High School, Class of 1962. She was widely known and loved as the “Welcome to the Northwoods Hostess” during her years as a bar and restaurant owner, always greeting both locals and visitors with an open heart and infectious smile. Her involvement in community life was passionate and inspiring, including her dedication to the Saint Germain Women’s Service Club and her regular attendance at both Holy Family Catholic Church and North Life Church in St. Germain, where she faithfully walked with Jesus Christ.
A vibrant spirit, Janet embraced life’s adventures — whether snowmobiling in her early married years, taking long pontoon rides, spending sun-filled picnic days at Crystal Lake, or enjoying camping trips. She cherished lengthy visits and telephone calls with loved ones, and her quick wit and talent for telling jokes in perfect character brought joy and laughter to every gathering. Janet’s love of board games was legendary, and her competitive yet playful nature made family game nights unforgettable.
Janet was a devoted mother to Kelly (Kazda) and Mike Roach, and to Kris and Loree (Benicke) Kazda. Her pride and joy were her beloved grandchildren: Sean and Alec Potter, Jessica and Tanner Beaman, Joe and Nicole Roach, Cole and Taylor Kazda, and Chase Kazda. She was recently blessed with two precious great-grandchildren, Emmy Roach and Lenny Beaman, who brought her immeasurable happiness.
Janet was preceded in death by her dear parents, Frank and Irene (Weber) Zaruba; her loved in-laws, Charlie and Rosetta (Brooker) Kazda; her brother Leon and Dolores Zaruba; and her sister Charlotte (Zaruba) and Henry Tameling. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, further survived by so many wonderful nieces, nephews, family, and friends — each of whom was touched by her generosity and light.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, a cause close to Janet’s compassionate heart.
Janet’s life was a blessing to all who knew her. Her joyful spirit, unwavering faith, and loving presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
