Edward L. Marshall, 90 of Lac du Flambeau, passed away on Wednesday, April 29 at Friendly Village and Rehab Center in Rhinelander. Ed was born on February 21, 1936 in Alton, Ill. the son of Edward and Margaret Marshall. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was a pilot for 30 years with American Airlines based out of Chicago.
Ed was a pilot by training and a conservationist at heart. His 20 years of dedication and commitment to the Discovery Center Bird Club will never be forgotten. He loved birds; participating in birding surveys, bird banding efforts and bird education. He spearheaded the creation of the Marshall Wildlife Conservation Area through the Northwoods Land Trust in September of 2016.
Ed also enjoyed surveying bats on Amber Lake, loved reading books and was known for his green thumb. He will always be remembered by his ridiculous jokes about chasing women.
He is survived by cousins and numerous friends.
A visitation for Ed will be held on Friday, May 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, and burial will take place on Monday, May 11 at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Ed may be made to the North Lakeland Discovery Center, PO Box 237, Manitowish Waters, WI 54545.
