Dr. John A. Kozisek died unexpectedly on February 23, 2026, from a traumatic head injury. He was born in Chicago and grew up in Downers Grove, Ill. He attended Benet Academy for high school and then St. Procopius College (now called Benedictine University). After college he attended St. Louis University Medical School. Upon completion there he did an internship in Rockford, Ill. for one year followed by a four-year orthopedic residency in Detroit at Henry Ford Hospital. His first job as an orthopedic surgeon was in Stevens Point. He was in private practice there for 14 years. He then decided to move to the Northwoods and join Marshfield Clinic. He practiced there for 23 years and retired in 2017.
John’s favorite things to do were travelling out west, fishing for walleye and musky, boating on Lake Minocqua, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and mainly just being with his family.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, John Sr. and Dorothea Kozisek. John has six cherished siblings.
John is mourned by his devoted wife, Linda of 50 years, and his children: Jacob (Camille), Laura (Brian), Zachary, and Luke (Ali). He was adored by his eight grandchildren: Brinley, Ava, Parker, Amelia, Ivan, Kitty, Reese, and Clyde.
John was well liked and respected by the medical profession, his patients, as well as in the community. He will be greatly missed by so many.
A memorial gathering for Dr. Kozisek will be held on Friday, March 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, with a memorial service at 5 p.m.
