Wausau man hit by pickup truck in Woodruff
A 47-year-old Wausau man was injured on June 12 when he was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Hemlock Street in Woodruff.
According to the state accident report filed by the Woodruff police department, Timothy Ives was one of two people crossing the road when he was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck driven by Gary Wheelock, 67, Oneida.
Wheelock told police he was northbound on State Highway 47 in downtown Woodruff and saw a person cross the road to the north in front of him but didn’t see the second person, which turned out to be Ives, crossing as well.
Wheelock said he hit his truck’s brakes but it was too late and Ives was struck by the right headlight of his vehicle.
Ives was taken by ambulance to Howard Young Medical Center.
Wheelock agreed to sobriety tests for alcohol use that turned out negative but ultimately received a written warning for expired registration of his truck.
