Stanley August Semmerling, of Minocqua, passed away on June 3, 2026. Born on February 13, 1937, in Chicago, he was the son of Stanley Lawrence Semmerling and Gladys Carrie Bell. Upon graduation from Minocqua High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served from 1955 to 1959.
On April 12, 1957, he married his beloved wife, Anne Timara “Tim” Wolk and together they had six children: Jeff Semmerling (Kristin) of Presque Isle, Joan Sparks (Les) of Callendar, Ontario Canada, Ruth Semmerling of Minocqua, Stephen Joseph (deceased October 5, 1962), Rita Semmerling of Minocqua, and Dan Semmerling (Christina), of Minocqua. He also had four siblings: Joyce (Sister Theresa Joseph) Semmerling (deceased), Sandy Stafford of Sorrento, Fla., Barbara “Bobbie” Huntley of Minocqua, and Jerry (Kilene) Semmerling of Rhinelander. He was a proud uncle of many nieces and nephews, and a devoted grandfather of numerous grand and great-grandchildren.
After leaving the Air Force, he was employed with the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS) from 1960 until his retirement in 1997. Stan spent his entire career with WPS, eventually serving as district manager for the Wabeno/Green Bay District and ultimately, the district office located in Minocqua. He additionally served several years on the HYMC board of directors. Outside of work, he especially loved being with family and his faithful canine companion Mylo, snowmobiling, playing cribbage, and spending time at “Mouse Ranch,” the cabin he and Tim built on their property located in Presque Isle.
He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, sparkling blue eyes, leadership skills, and his dedication to his family.
Stanley will be interned beside his wife in St. Patricks Cemetery in Woodruff. Per his request, no funeral services will be offered.
