William “Bill” John Gitzlaff, 74 of Minocqua, passed away peacefully due to complications of ALS with his wife and daughter by his side on Friday, May 29 at Howard Young Medical Center.
Bill was born on August 30, 1951 in Racine, the son of Arnold and Lois (nee Helding) Gitzlaff. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years.
A devoted husband, loving father, and family man, he carried himself with a quiet confidence that was evident in all he did. When he crossed the lake in his boat or riding his snowmobile, he always seemed to find his way to the front. He was an avid golfer whose memorable hole-in-one on his birthday was another example of his wins, though he never bragged. He was remarkable with horseshoes, and on the baseball field, he was the talented and dependable player every team was grateful to have.
Bill is survived by his wife Diane and daughter Jennifer (Patrick) Kimmerling, by his grandsons Tyler and Matthew Kimmerling, by his brother Stephen (Sue) Gitzlaff, and by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Lois Gitzlaff.
Upon his wishes, cremation took place. Private services with military honors will take place at Forest Gardens Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life for Bill at a later date.
