Neal Thomas Kania, age 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, in Marshfield on July 9, 2026. He was born on May 5, 1949, in Baraboo, the son of Elmer and Rose (Kaja) Kania.
He graduated from Bay View High School and continued to get his bachelor’s degree from UW-Milwaukee and UW-Stevens Point. He then went on to achieve a master’s degree in business and manufacturing from UW-Stout.
Neal was united in marriage to Anna Christine Barg, on July 26, 1969, at St. Veronica’s Catholic church in Bay View. They went on to have three wonderful children; Christopher, Michelle (Shelly), and Kirk.
He loved anything with an engine, but one of his biggest passions was sailing. With a dream of sailing around the world, he got his Captain’s license from the U.S. Coast Guard. Neal was a very athletic person and was not afraid to try something new. Downhill skiing, water skiing, snowmobiling, and baseball were some of his favorites, but he enjoyed something as simple as playing catch in his backyard with his children. He was an avid card player and loved to teach people how to play.
Most of Neal’s work life was in manufacturing and helping businesses succeed. He enjoyed his employment at Caterpillar, Drott, J.I. Case, and D & S Manufacturing. One of his dreams was to own a bar/restaurant, and on August 13, 2007, he and Christine fulfilled that dream by purchasing the Four Season’s Supper Club, on Big Arbor Vitae Lake. Neal loved greeting and taking care of his customers, and often said, “We have the best customers in the world!” If you were lucky enough to venture to the Four Seasons, you undoubtedly heard a joke or two from Neal. He was the heart and soul of the Four Seasons.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; sons, Christopher (Jill), and Kirk; his daughter Shelly (Tom) Marten; grandchildren Isabel, Evan, Nick, Maddie, AJ, and Amy; brothers, Scott (Linda) and Rick (Beth); sister Kathy; and many nieces, nephews and their dogs Mini and Mia. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and brother, Allan.
The family would like to invite family and friends to help celebrate Neal’s life, on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Four Seasons Supper Club, from noon until 4 p.m. It is also the 57th wedding anniversary of Neal and Christine.
