Donald Alfred Pallin
Donald Alfred Pallin passed away peacefully at his home in Minocqua on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 with his daughter at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Elizabeth Pallin, his beloved wife Nancy, his sons Reid and Robert Allyn, his brother John Pallin of Pensacola, Fla. and sister Judy Berg of Lake Geneva.
He was born in Western Springs, Ill. on November 5, 1936, graduated from East High School in Memphis Tenn. He then attended the University of Michigan where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in forestry. He moved his family to Memphis, where they resided for many years. He soon became international vice president of Delta and Pine Land Company in Scott, Miss. and travelled the world with Nancy developing the international cotton seed business.
As a member of the 27 Break Hunting Club he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother, brothers-in-law, nephews, sons and friends. Don was a passionate sportsman. Anyone who hunted with him was held to the highest standards of responsible and ethical harvesting of game. He also used his immense forestry knowledge to educate his fellow hunters of the flora and fauna of the area, whether they wanted to hear it or not.
After retiring from Delta and Pine Land, Don and Nancy moved to Harshaw, where they built their dream home log cabin on 50 acres. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Pruitt-Potter of Columbia, Tenn., his sister Ruth (Andrew) Bankston of New Orleans, La.; sisters-in-law melanie (Gary) Zick of Crestview, Fla., Laurel (Ronald) Logan of Gwinn, Mich. and, Linda Longo Pallin of Pensacola, Fla., grandson Sean (Sara) Allyn of San Antonio, grandaughter Olivia (Justin Nelson) Pruitt of Rochester, Minn., great -granddaughter Aurora Allyn and former son-in-law James (Dawn Folz) Pruitt of Almena and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring at the Church of the Pines in Minocqua, where he and his wife were longtime members.
