James “Jim” Volke

James “Jim” Volke, 78, of Manitowish Waters, passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, papa, and friend whose kindness, generosity, and sense of humor touched all who knew him and will be deeply missed.

Jim was born on May 3, 1947, in Whitefish Bay. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point with a degree in biology and went on to build a nearly 30-year career with Pfizer. While living in Milwaukee, Jim met the love of his life, Jean. They were married in 1975 and together built a life centered on family, love, and laughter.

In 2005, Jim and Jean moved to Manitowish Waters to enjoy retirement. Jim found joy in working on projects around the house, taking boat rides on the lake, and escaping Wisconsin winters in Florida. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Jean; his son, Ryan (Kelly); his daughter, Sara (Bryant); and his grandchildren, Ben and Maddie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruth Volke.

Jim will be interred at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Manitowish Waters. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association (als.org).
