Thomas Luvern Thompson, 76, of Mercer, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 24, 2026.

Born in Mercer at his grandparents’ home, Tom spent his life in the community he loved. He attended the Mercer School District (Class of 1969), where he met the love of his life, Denise. They were married on June 12, 1971. Tom and Denise were inseparable, truly attached at the hip, you would never find them apart. Their 54-year marriage was a testament to a deep, steady bond built on decades of shared life, love, and unwavering companionship. They raised three children: Christopher, Tammy, and Shawn.

Tom was the co-owner of Tom’s Country Café for 36 years, creating more than just a restaurant, he built a place where everyone felt like family. Through his kindness, hard work, and genuine love for people, Tom helped shape the heart and soul of the cafe. Over the years, he also owned Thompson Heating and Cooling and worked many other jobs. Tom’s impact on the Mercer community is immeasurable, serving on the Mercer Volunteer Fire Department as Lieutenant, a member of the Mercer Park Board, and other committees.

Tom had a gift for making people smile and will be remembered for his generous spirit and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Known for his quick wit and goofy humor, he was always cracking jokes, making silly faces, and striking up conversations wherever he went — truly a social butterfly who never met a stranger. A natural tinkerer, he loved starting and improving projects, often working side-by-side with his sister Carol. Whether he was fishing, boating, playing cribbage, traveling, making trips around town to visit family and friends, or enjoying time with his morning coffee crew, Tom made the most of every moment, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Tom cherished his grandchildren and embraced every opportunity to be part of their lives, sharing his humor, wisdom, and love. Whether teaching them to fish, cheering them on at sporting events, building projects together, or simply making them laugh, he created lasting memories.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Denise Thompson; his children, Christopher (Tricia) Thompson, Tammy (Jerome) Moynihan, and Shawn (Amber) Thompson; his cherished grandchildren, Sydney (Grant) Thompson, Bailey Thompson, Tucker Moynihan, Morgan Moynihan, Simon Thompson, and Stella Thompson.
