Janice Loreeta Reed

Janice Loreeta Reed, 87, formerly of Madison, Rochester, Minn., and Presque Isle, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at Schooner Memory Care Facility in Auburn, Maine. Her memorial services will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Woodruff, where she will be laid to rest in the memorial garden.

Jan was born on August 4, 1937, in Metropolis, Ill., and graduated from Preston High School in 1955. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in dietetics from the University of Illinois-Champaign-Urbana (1959), M.S. in home economics from UW-Madison (1960), and PHD in continuing Education from UW-Madison (1980). She was introduced to Dr. Charles Emmett Reed by mutual friends in 1960, and they were married in 1962. They were blessed with four children, James, Walter, Barbara, and Lawrence. The Reeds moved to Rochester in 1978. Jan worked as a real estate agent and was an accomplished cellist. Jan was also very active in the Minnesota Democratic Party and PEO for many years. After the Reeds retired, they moved to their second home in Presque Isle, where she continued her involvement with PEO and joined the Lions Club of Boulder Junction.

Jan is survived by her children Jim (Kris), Walt (Madelyn), Barb (Marc), stepdaughter Marian (Mark), and grandchildren, Gabe, Christopher, Erika, Geoffrey, Anna, Nathan, Caroline, Joshua, Jacquelyn, and Lily, and her second cousin, Anie (Luis). She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charlie; her son, Larry; her mother and adoptive father, Frances Elizabeth (Artman) and William Milne Tullock; her father and his beloved wife, Howard and MaryLynn Abram; stepchildren David and Jocelyn; and granddaughter Marian (John).

Our family thanks the Schooner Memory Care staff for their kind and compassionate care of Jan. Special thanks to our brother Walt, his wife Madelyn, and their daughter Caroline, who made Jan’s last two years especially meaningful. Jan was blessed to have the support and love of many friends from both Minnesota and Wisconsin. We are grateful to you all.
