Judith Moran
Judith Moran, 87, a Woodruff resident for over 30 years, died peacefully on Thursday, November 6, at Country Terrace of Minocqua. She was born in Evanston, Ill. on July 5, 1938. She attended Catholic Central High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. after her father, a Chicago physician and her mother, retired there.
She joined the religious order of the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Mich. in 1955 after high school as Sister Mary Ferrer and remained in the order for 16 years, teaching grade school and high school in Saginaw, while earning a bachelor of arts degree from Sienna Heights College and master of arts degree from University of Michigan. She returned to Ft. Lauderdale for several years, working as a bookkeeper and office manager in a physician’s office, while earning another master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University. After earning her Ph.D. at FSU in Tallahassee, she continued to teach English Literature in various colleges in Florida, South Carolina and finally, Platteville and Woodruff, where she has resided for the past 36 years. She left teaching and worked at the Minocqua Wal-Mart as the “humming cashier” for almost 10 years until 2008, at which time she retired. She was very active in the faith community at Holy Family Catholic Church and in the Minocqua Library book club.
She is preceded in death by her sister Patricia Moran Hiaasen and her brother, Rev. Robert E. Moran. She is survived by her niece, Judith Hiaasen of Evergreen, Colo., her niece Barbara Hiaasen and nephew Carl Hiaasen of Florida, and first cousins Joan Williams, and Laura Lee Thorsen of Arizona.
Visitation for Judith will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Woodruff.
