Gordon Hugh Scifres “Gordy,” 86 of Springstead and Manitowish Waters, was gathered to his father’s and family to rest with his days being fulfilled on Shabbat, Saturday, October 25, 2025 in Pensacola, Fla. Passing on peacefully mid-afternoon during sleep with no pain and many prayers, finally ending his battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born in Seymour, Ind. in 1939 to Hugh Scifres and Francis Arnell (Hardin) Scifres, he was always proud of his heritage and hard working upbringing with an apprenticeship in “backwoodsman” hunting and fishing. Joining the U.S. Army for a short period, serving as a dental technician and earning a sharp-shooter star. He then participated in the National Guard and on to a life-long career of carpentry from Indianapolis to Manitowish Waters and surrounding areas. Gordy was very loved and will be dearly missed, his legacy lives on in many crafted buildings and in the hearts of those he touched as a warm and caring man filled with laughter. He was involved in community through many means including the Lions Club and as a Deacon at the Presbyterian Church, youth group leader and enjoyed bowling weekly and fishing as often as possible. In later life he adored spending time with his “grandchildren,” the family of his wife Caryl.

Gordy was preceded in death by his son Andrew Brant Scifres; his wife Caryl Scifres; all his siblings, two brothers Wayne Scifres and Dennis Scifres and sister Rosalie Lewis. Gordy is survived by his two daughters, Amy Scifres and Shannon Carlson.
