Barbara Ann Edwards (1945 – 2025)

Barbara passed away on October 8, peacefully in her sleep. She was born to Leona and George Shultz and grew up in Hazelhurst on the family’s farm, Shultz’s Sprucehaven Farm. In middle school, the family moved to Phoenix, spending the school years in Arizona and summers back in Wisconsin. She graduated from ASU, where she met Crew Schmitt, father to her two girls. Barbara had a lifelong career in finance and accounting with Motorola, where she later met her second husband, Jon Edwards. She transferred with him to National Semiconductor and spent four years working in Germany before returning stateside — and back to Motorola — where she retired at the age of 48. After her mother’s passing in 2005, Barbara was finally able to return home to her beloved Northwoods, where she immensely enjoyed watching the deer and birds, particularly chickadees and cardinals, and lived her happiest years. She had a heart of gold, an impish wit, endless spunk, and a vast wealth of knowledge. Her generosity knew no bounds — from quietly helping those less fortunate to championing every underdog she met. Nothing meant more to her than dogs — especially her own, of which she had many throughout her life. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making a donation in her name to the Oneida County Humane Society or your local no-kill shelter. Barbara was preceded in death, most importantly, by Sans, Neewa, Prince, Misty, Chandra, Shadow, and Sadie, as well as by her parents and half-brother Colin F. Shultz. She leaves behind her last furbaby Missy; dearest sister Rosalie Lyall; devoted daughters Jennifer (“best ex ever” Robie) Strickland and Tiffany (Neil) Fletcher; cherished nephews Wayne (Sue Norden) Lyall and Mike (Lilly) Lyall; beloved grandsons Joshua Fletcher (girlfriend Arielle) and Jordan Fletcher (fiancée Kali); best friend Sallie Bishop; and her two angels, Shannon and Kristin, who made her final weeks everything she wished for. A celebration of her life will be held near Minocqua in the spring. Until then, keep your sense of humor — and find your peace and joy.
