Robert “Bobbo” LeRoy Jacobs, 89 of Woodruff, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2025. Robert was born on December 25,1935, the son of Roy and Evelyn (Stepke) Jacobs. Bobbo graduated from East Troy High School in 1955 and briefly attended Winona State University. While attending High School in East Troy he played on the baseball, football and golf teams and was a member of the student council. Bobbo was an all-conference football and golf athlete and was part of the state golf tournament in 1954 and 1955. Bobbo was very proud to be a part of these sports teams and the love for these sports lives on with his children and grandchildren. Bobbo enlisted in the United States Army in 1956 and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Bobbo loved to share his Army stories and will always be thankful for the time he spent in the U.S. military.
Bobbo met the love of his life Susan Jacobs (Haller) on a “blind date.” They married soon after on January 7, 1961, at St. Florian Church in Milwaukee. They would have been married 64 years on Jan. 7. Shortly after marrying, Bobbo and Susan “Susie” co-operated Lake Beulah Country Club in Mukwonago. Being the avid golfer he was, this was the perfect fit. Bobbo was the heart and soul behind the bar and restaurant business for many years. During this time they also started raising their family of five and later resided in their family home in East Troy until they made the trek north to Presque Isle.
In 1983 they made the tough decision to move the family north and purchased Beacon Point Resort in Presque Isle where they owned and operated the resort for 10-plus years. Steve (Reeno), Terri and Patti attended North Lakeland Elementary School and Lakeland Union High School. Bobbo’s memories of the resort, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and hosting hundreds of families and friends were some of the best of his life. He would want to recognize many Presque Isle friends and families for their eternal love and support during those times and forever on. Presque Isle will hold a very special spot in the heart of our family, but we will never give up his fishing spots!
In 1995, after the sale of the resort, Bobbo and Susie purchased The Root Cellar located in downtown Minocqua. Many will remember Bobbo’s morning visits to open up, take the trash out and shovel the walk in front of the store. As you can imagine he made many friends along the way. He would want to pay special tribute to “his girls” from the Root Cellar over the years … too many to mention. You know who you are.
Bobbo is survived by his children Richard (Lisa) Jacobs, Jackie Hofstetter, Steve Jacobs, Terri (Tom) Wise, Patti (Kitt Koski) Rubo. He was lucky enough to have been given 15 grandchildren: Erica Dormer (Hofstetter), Fred (Elaina) Hofstetter, Ryan Jacobs, Lindsay (Dominic) Christensen, Olivia Wise, Journey Jacobs, Axle Jacobs, Jack Rubo, Rylie Wise, Chance Jacobs, Blaze Jacobs, Cash Jacobs, Kasey Wise, Wild Jacobs and Henry Koski. Talk about lucky — he was also blessed with four great-grandchildren; Louis and Murray Dormer (Hofstetter), Nash Christensen and Russell Hofstetter. Bobbo is also survived by his special cousin Skip, Susie’s sisters Patricia Haller and Roberta Welch and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
We sincerely want to thank the neighbors that surrounded Bobbo, especially the years following Susie’s passing. Your help and support were much appreciated.
Bobbo was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Evelyn Jacobs, his wife Susie Jacobs, his brother Jim Jacobs, as well as his son-in-law Don Hofstetter and beloved daughter (in-law) Angie Jacobs (Kozak).
