Gene LaRoy Lavender passed away peacefully with family by his side the afternoon of February 5, 2025 after an 11-month battle with cancer. He was the son of Robert D. Lavender Sr. & Lois M. Lavender born on April 29,1958.
Gene served in the Army National Guards as a Tank Turret Mechanic and was known by many for his amazing talents and charismatic personality. He was a great artist and a fantastic musician. For many years he was the lead singer in a four-man band called the "Honky Tonk Heros" in the ‘80s and played for many venues throughout the state. His love and knowledge of music was an inspiration to many.
Gene is survived by his loving mother, Lois; his children, Alexander Lavender & Tiffany (Adam) Lavender of LaCrosse, along with his grandchildren, Quinn Puzon, Jaedon Lavender, Jameson Lavender, Lane Lavender, Isaac Hardnett and Nailah Hardnett, his siblings, Robert (Dawn) Lavender Jr, Jayme (Cathy) Lavender, Erin Lavender, & Otona Lavender along with his many beloved nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his father Robert D. Lavender Sr., his grandson Orlando Vega, and his nephew Chad Lavender, along with his grandparents Dewey & Stella Lavender, Harry Jensen & Viola Eaton and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The celebration of life to honor Gene will be held at the Lavender Family Property (2901 Fire Lane Rd) in Sugar Camp, on Saturday, May 25, 2025 beginning at 1 p.m. until the fire burns out. There will be music and laughter to honor his memory.
